Raisins are dried grapes. They are produced around the world and may be eaten raw or used in cooking, baking and brewing. Traditionally, raisins are sun-dried.
They contain up to 72% sugars and like other dried fruits they are also high in certain antioxidants.
A curious fact is that sugars can crystallize inside the fruit if stored for a long period of time. But that does not affect their usability. The fruits can be blanched in hot water, which will make these crystals dissolve.
Raisins are recommended in any diet as they help control glucose and cholesterol. They can be enjoyed as a snack, used for baked goods and desserts.
